Introducing VOLUME, featuring the art of Tim Kerr, Otis B and Sonny Kay. The three artists are connected by their roots in punk and brought together by Otis for an in-store show at UNIV, premiering Friday, June 24th from 6-10pm. Tim Kerr is a founding member of pioneering hardcore band The Big Boys, known for their unique musical approach and energetic live shows and, commonly referred to as the precursors of skate punk. Kerr also played in a number of other bands over the years and, all along, he's paid homage back to the music by painting text-adorned portraits of his mentors. Otis B is a San Diego indie rock legend and famous guitarist for such bands as fluf, Olivelawn, Reeve Oliver and The Makeup Sex. O is also a longtime skate photographer since the mid-80s. His art references abstract expressionism and utilizes found objects. Sonny Kay utilizes self-expression rooted in the punk underground, but connected to the wider world of classical art and design, rock music and politics. Kay has been an artist in multiple mediums, from performer and lyricist, to graphic designer and creative director. He founded the now-defunct Gold Standard Laboratories (GSL) label and was instrumental to the careers (and design) of groups as varied as The Locust, The Mars Volta and The Rapture.
