We're pleased to bring you Top Ramen Nachos, featuring the art of Dustin Ortiz,  Jonathan Mattson and Jared Mattson at UNIV this Friday, September 30th. If there were a Boy Scouts for latchkey kids,  one of the first merit badges earned would be that of surviving the wilderness that is the pantry of a lower middle class family. Once you can put a meal together for yourself,  the process of being home alone for a good part of the week seems less a handicap and more a great opportunity to explore the limits of your prepubescent ingenuity. Dustin Ortiz,  Jonathan and Jared Mattson had such an upbringing. Born and raised in Encinitas,  surrounded by the creative melting pot of the surf and skateboard communities,  Dustin and the Mattson's have been using the tools at their disposal to create for the better part of their lives. They have chosen the name,  Top Ramen Nachos for their first show together as a symbol of the unique and satisfying combinations that can manifest when one is left their own devices in a world where the circumstances are not ideal. The Snakeskin Cowboys will be headlining the world famous Saloon in Encinitas Tuesday night in Bucking Bronco, starring Hott Carl and Executive. The Cowboys bring their eclectic musical stylings and all-vinyl set to unsuspecting ears. Other highlights on this fabulous night include guest bartender Jacob aka CIXXX and the celebration of Amanda's birthday. It's going to be a wonderful evening.

Introducing the launch of Dixon Shoes this Friday, August 12th at UNIV. Featuring timeless classics, Dixon is brand new and we look forward to celebrating the introduction of the brand. We will be releasing the entire Dixon collection and the event will run from 5 to 7pm in the shop. Beverages will be provided by Kona Brewing Co. The after-party continues with a double whammy at Zenbu in Cardiff with a rousing performance by local noisemasters The Snakeskin Cowboys, with Hott Carl and DJ Executive. Introducing VOLUME, featuring the art of Tim Kerr, Otis B and Sonny Kay. The three artists are connected by their roots in punk and brought together by Otis for an in-store show at UNIV, premiering Friday, June 24th from 6-10pm. Tim Kerr is a founding member of pioneering hardcore band The Big Boys, known for their unique musical approach and energetic live shows and, commonly referred to as the precursors of skate punk. Kerr also played in a number of other bands over the years and, all along, he's paid homage back to the music by painting text-adorned portraits of his mentors. Otis B is a San Diego indie rock legend and famous guitarist for such bands as fluf, Olivelawn, Reeve Oliver and The Makeup Sex. O is also a longtime skate photographer since the mid-80s. His art references abstract expressionism and utilizes found objects. Sonny Kay utilizes self-expression rooted in the punk underground, but connected to the wider world of classical art and design, rock music and politics. Kay has been an artist in multiple mediums, from performer and lyricist, to graphic designer and creative director. He founded the now-defunct Gold Standard Laboratories (GSL) label and was instrumental to the careers (and design) of groups as varied as The Locust, The Mars Volta and The Rapture.
